Here's a secret they don't put on the website: I'm not actually grumpy.

I started the way most of us do — hauling speakers for pool parties and school dances as a teenage DJ, convinced I was the most important person in the room. (I was not. The kid with the pizza was.) A brief detour into radio followed, which taught me everything I needed to know about talking to nobody in particular at three in the morning.

Then in 1993, I found my real home — live audio. I started on cruise ships, where I learned that the show must go on whether the seas are calm or the PA is actively trying to kill you. I built a Rolodex one handshake at a time, worked my way from the water to the road, and over the years engineered thousands of shows across stages I couldn't have dreamed of as that kid with the DJ crates.

Along the way I found my people — the artists who have paid their dues in full. Not the stadium fillers, not the algorithm chasers. The ones who have been doing this for decades because they genuinely cannot imagine doing anything else. Artists who are still relevant, still vital, still giving everything they have every single night — they just happen to be playing theaters instead of arenas, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

For the past three years I've been touring with Judy Collins, doing around 120 shows a year. If you know, you know.

The truth is, I love this job. Almost everyone I've ever worked with has wanted to work with me again. I believe in serving with a smile, leaving the stage better than I found it, and never — not once — letting the audience know that anything went wrong.

The Grumpy Sound Guy is my alter ego. The version of me that never gets to come out because professionalism demands otherwise. This store is his world — a place for everyone who has ever stood behind a console, in the dark, making magic happen while the artist takes the bow.
